Perry High School Drama Department presents their Fall Play PUFFS in the Perry Performing Arts Center for two performances on November 8, 2024 (7:00 p.m.) and November 9, 2024 (7:00 p.m.).
For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.
The New York Times proclaims PUFFS, “A FAST-PACED ROMP through the ‘Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.’ For POTTERphiliacs who grew up alongside Potter and are eager to revisit that world, ‘PUFFS’ exudes a jovial, winking fondness for all things Harry!”
This clever and inventive play “never goes more than a minute without a laugh” (Nerdist) giving you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three potential heroes just trying to make it through a magic school that proves to be very dangerous for children. Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal outsiders with a thing for badgers “who are so lovable and relatable, you’ll leave the theater wishing they were in the stories all along” (Hollywood Life). Their “hilariously heartfelt!” (Metro) and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and reimagines what a boy wizard hero can be.

Al Welsh Orchestra

The Perry Fine Arts Series will be presenting the Al Welsh Orchestra in concert on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Perry Performing Arts Center,
The Al Welsh Orchestra plays music of the big band era along with many of the most famous dance tunes of the 1920s, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, and beyond! They play the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Woody Hermann, Benny Goodman as well as music of the most popular dance bands such as Lawrence Welk, Guy Lombardo, Sammy Kaye, and many others!
Since the mid 1950's, the Al Welsh Orchestra has entertained thousands of people annually, playing for many different occasions. Just as in decades past, the orchestra continues on to this day, playing ballrooms, dance clubs, town celebrations, wedding receptions, birthday and anniversary parties, and dedications, among other venues. Al Welsh was regarded as one of Iowa's most well-known swing band leaders and performers. Welsh started his band in the early 1950's and led his group for 39 years until his untimely death in March 1989 at the age of 59. Sherry Welsh continued to keep the band in existence after her husband's death, along with saxophone/clarinet player, Ross Leeper, who took over as leader and announcer. Veterans Day Celebration
November 11, 2024
The twenty-sixth annual Perry Community High School Veterans Day Celebration will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024 at 10:00 a,m. A cooperative effort between Bluejay Congress, the Perry Student Activities Department, the Perry Community School Foundation, the Perry Historical Commission, and the local Perry chapters of the American Legion and the VFW.
On November 11, 1989, the Perry Community High School Social Studies Department of Jim Kaufman, Tom Lipovac, and Tom Schleicher held its first Veterans Day Panel Discussion. World War II Veterans Mayor George Soumas, Mr. Emil Natalle, and Mr. Dale Grow visited with our American History students. Each Veterans Day since, veterans have visited Perry High School sharing their memories.
On Veterans Day in 1997, Mr. Natalle remarked that no community observance of this special day was planned. With this in mind, Bluejay Congress under the leadership of Linda Kaufman and with the assistance of International Affairs class, organized and hosted the first Perry High School Veterans Day Celebration in 1998.
